現代デトロイト・シーンを牽引するのドラマー／トラック・メイカーのShigetoとその弟Ben Saginaw(Ritual Howls)が立ち上げたレーベル、Portage Garage Soundsが発掘した秘宝、Tammy Lakkisが遂に日本デビュー。

すでに一部のクラブ系リスナーから絶賛されているデビューEP『Notice』（アナログのファースト・プレスは即完）に同時期に制作していた2曲を追加して日本のみでアルバム仕様でCD化。ここ日本でも多大な支持を得ること必至の逸材。
タイトル・トラックのどこか妖しげながら爽快なディープ・ハウス「Notice」はサマー・アンセムになること必至。
今夏の必聴作。

レバノンからの移民の娘であるLakkisは、オンタリオ州ウィンザーとミシガン州ディアボーンハイツで育ち、現在はハムトラックを拠点に活動しています。彼女はシンガー、ソングライター、プロデューサー、DJとして多方面で活躍。ライヴ・パフォーマンスでは、心に残る美しい唯一無二の声で、英語とアラビア語のバイリンガルで歌い、多くの人の心を掴んでいる。元々はシンガーソングライターとして活躍していたが、この3年間夜な夜なダンスフロアとスタジオを行き来しながら、デトロイトのアンダーグラウンド・シーンに接し、それに呼応するかのように、独自のサウンドを開発してきた。そして現代デトロイト・シーンの中核Shigeto率いるPortage Garage Soundsが契約し、本作のリリースへと至った。

この作品『Notice』は、COVID以前の人生のタイムカプセルのようなもので、彼女が何年もかけて作曲し、開発し、技術を磨いてきたドキュメント。この『Notice』ダンス・ミュージックのスペクトラムを超えた4つのトラックで、それぞれのトラックがユニークな色を発している。

「Hello??」
イントロダクションの波。パーカッションを多用したスラップは、ダークな雰囲気と遊び心の間を行き来し、まるで恐竜がハンマーで目に入るものを壊しながら踊るようです。威嚇的でファンキーな図太いベースが炸裂し、その上を歪ながら心地よく加工されたヴォーカルが飛び跳ねながら “Hello? “と問いかける。ステレオできらめき、耳を色で満たしながら、”誰かいるのか？”と自問するように忍び寄ってくる。

「Wen Rayeh」
アップビート、遊び心。復讐に燃える、卑劣な。蛇のように。シンプルでメタファーに富んだ伝統的なアラビア語の歌の歌詞構造と、突き刺すような執拗なパーカッションを持つ実験的な電子音を融合させた極上のエレクトロニック・アヴァン・ポップ。

「Shark Island」
ハードウェアのライヴ・テイク、ファットでサグいベース。遊び心があって、キュートで、邪悪。フラミンゴの島を周回するサメたち。周期的でグルーヴィでディープなテクノ〜ハウス・サウンド。

「Notice」
ラヴ・ソング。バラード。ジョン・ヒューズの未公開映画の中のクライマックスを飾る曲というコンセプト。デトロイトのダンス・フロアにインスパイアされた、10代の頃にレイヴや高校のダンスで聴いてみたかったクロスオーバー・ヒット曲のようなディープ・ハウス・サウンド。久しぶりに太陽の光を見る。窓を開けて運転すること。視点を変えることへのラヴ・レター。実現と変化の中にある美を讃える。2021年のサマー・アンセム。

これらの4曲に加え、同時期に制作していたという、「Get Up」と「Moon Rock」の2曲をボーナス・トラックとして加え、日本のみでアルバム仕様でCD化。
デトロイトのアンダーグラウンドに根ざした秀逸なサウンド・プロダクションと英語＋アラビア語による独特の歌唱が相まったスタイルは颯爽とフロアとリスニングを横断し、ジャンルの垣根を越えてここ日本でも支持を集める必至だろう。

Over the last three years, Tammy Lakkis spent her nights between the dance floor and the studio, developing her own unique sound – in celebration of, and in reaction to Detroit’s underground.

The daughter of Lebanese immigrants, Lakkis grew up in Windsor, Ontario and Dearborn Heights, Michigan and is now based in Hamtramck. She is a versatile singer, songwriter, producer, and DJ; in live performance she is known for her all-hardware sets, singing bi-lingually in English and Arabic with a hauntingly beautiful, one-of-a-kind voice.

“Notice” is the first vinyl release from Tammy, a document of years writing, developing, and honing her craft, a time capsule to life before COVID. The “Notice” EP is four tracks across the spectrum of dance music, each track a unique color.

“Hello??”
An introductory wave. A percussion heavy slapper riding the fine line between dark and playful, like a dinosaur dancing with a sledge hammer breaking everything in sight. A menacing bass line makes your stomach drop while processed vocals prance on top of it asking the question “Hello??”. Shimmering in stereo, filling your ears with color while creeping in to make you ask yourself “is anyone out there?”

“Wen Rayeh”
Upbeat, playful. Vengeful, sneaky. A snake. Contemporary diasporic Arabic electronic avant-pop. Fuses lyric structure of simple but metaphor-driven traditional Arabic songs with experimental electronic sounds with piercing, relentless percussion.

“Shark Island”
Hardware live take, big and bad bass. Playful, Cute, and evil. Sharks circling an island of flamingos. Cyclical.

“Notice”
A love song. Ballad. A series of moments, building; The song at the pinnacle moment in an unreleased John Hughes movie. Inspired by Detroit’s dance floors, a crossover hit you wish you heard when you were in your teens at a rave/high school dance. Seeing the sun for the first time in a while. Driving with the windows down. Love letter to shifting perspectives. Celebrating beauty in realization and change.

The song of the summer.
